Rep. J.D. Hayworth (R-Arizona), the co-chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has reimbursed two tribes nearly $13,000 for using luxury sports arena suites that were leased by disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff.
Hayworth filed a statement with the Federal Election Commission stating that he paid the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians and the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana for using the suites five times from 1999 to 2001. But he did not state the suites were leased by Abramoff, The Arizona Republic reported.
Neither did Rep. John Doolittle (R-California) or Rep. Bob Ney (R-Ohio), the paper said. Ney made the unusual disclosure of reporting that Neil Volz, his former chief of staff and associate of Abramoff's at Greenberg Traurig, provided the suites.
