Rival factions of Meskwaki Tribe still feuding

The leadership dispute within the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa is over but there are still simmering problems, the Associated Press reports.

Critics of chairman Homer Bear Jr. say he is offering to pay off the state in order to prevent new casinos. A Bear spokesperson denied the charge. The critics say Bear would pay the state $50 million up front and then $30 million to $35 million annually.

An attorney also said the tribe's gaming commission is trying to ban people associated with Bear's rivals. The tribe says the people were involved in a break-in at the casino.
