TUESDAY, JUNE 10, 2003 The recently elected council for the Meskwaki Tribe of Iowa said it will schedule a vote to fire a law firm, Dorsey & Whitney, retained by the previously elected council. The recently elected council is not recognized by the Bureau of Indian Affairs or the National Indian Gaming Commission. But the majority of voting tribal members don't support the previously elected council. The two sides are battling for control of the tribe. In the meantime, NIGC has shut down the tribe's casino.
