"My non-Indian friend stared at me in wide-eyed disbelief. “Get outta here!” he said. “You mean all Indians don’t get along with each other? I thought you guys were all SOLID, man!” Nope. Especially not around the waistline, at least in my case.

Now, I’d had plenty of experience with racism from whites throughout my life, and I could talk about that all day. But this time the organizers had asked me address the topic of racism amongst Indian people – Natives vs. Natives, if you will – something called lateral oppression. . ."
