New York State Govenor George Pataki signed a compact with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe in June, giving them exclusive rights on electronic gaming devices at one of their existing gaming facilities.

The compact was rejected by the Department of Interior, however, on July 26. The compact was presented as a five-year extension to the previous 1999 agreement.
