A group called Nebraskans Against Expanded Gambling should be called Iowa Casinos Against Nebraska Gambling, according to a report in today's Omaha World-Herald.

Two Iowa casinos have donated more than $40,000 to the group, which is headed by a Republican activist in Omaha. But the group didn't reveal that contribution, at least until now, and instead focused on its 800 members, implying that it was a grass-roots organization.

The World-Herald, however, contacted 50 of its members and found out that only eight knew they were members. Of those, just five said they had given money to the group, giving a combined total of $40.

The group used the $40,000 donation to oppose a bill that would have allowed for expanded gaming on the state's reservations and on another gaming proposal. The group plans on officially disclosing the donation this week in an amended filing with the Nebraska Accountability and Disclosure Commission.
