THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2001

The state of Idaho on Wednesday asked the Supreme Court to review whether the state can collect fuel tax on gasoline sold on reservations.

The state is appealing a state Supreme Court decision which rejected attempts to collect the tax. The Idaho Supreme Court said the Coeur d'Alene Tribe and the Nez Perce Tribe did not have to remit the tax to the state.

Earlier this year, Idaho lost its Supreme Court appeal over the ownership of Lake Coeur d'Alene. The Supreme Court also decided not to hear the a case where the state said the Nez Perce Reservation has been terminated.
