MARCH 14, 2001

Nevada Department of Agriculture officials on Monday released five wild horses from a corral located on land apparently owned by the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe.

The corral appeared to be part of a rustling ring but it is not clear yet who was running it. The horses were being forced into the well-hidden corral and when officials discovered them, they had no food or water.

Officiials are also unclear how the animals might have been transported out of the corral. The corral was located on a remote mountain side reachable only by four wheel drive.
