The Denver Post reports that a settlement on some of the issues of Indian trust fund management had been reached but has now been dropped.

Dennis Gingold, a lawyer representing the Indian Individual Money (IIM) account holders, told the paper a settlement had been reached with the Department of Interior. It would have allowed them to put a dollar amount on the amount the account holders are due for years of financial mismanagement.

But Gingold says Assistant Attorney General Lois J. Schiffer in the Department of Justice wanted to rewrite the settlement, effectively killing it. Gingold says he will now go back to court and claim that more documents are being destroyed, despite court orders against it.
