N.M. tribe develops owl plan

MONDAY, MAY 6, 2002 The Mescalero Apache Nation of New Mexico recently agreed to a management plan with the federal government regarding the protection of spotted owls. The plan allows the tribe to continue logging on its reservation. When owls are found, the tribe will not remove trees within 400 acres. Additionally, a 32,200-acre no-logging area has been designated. Get the Story:
