At the request of the White House the National Academy of Sciences on Wednesday released a report concluding that global warming is a real scientific phenomenon.

The report evaluated conclusions made by a United Nations panel on global warming's ties to greenhouse gas emissions. The report says the conclusions are warranted.

White House spokesperson Ari Fleischer said the report show the earth is warming but doesn't prove why.

The report comes in advance of President Bush's planned meeting with European leaders on global warming. The international community has criticized Bush for abandoning a global warming treaty President Bill Clinton signed.
