APRIL 18, 2001

The Army Corps of Engineers has extended by 30 days the public comment period on a plan to grant permits to the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut.

The tribe is leasing federal waterways and wants the Army Corps to grant permits for a new aquaculture business. But fishermen in the area say the project will threaten their traditional fishing grounds.

The comment period had been April 19. It is now May 19.
