The National Park Service has extended a comment period by 15 days on the management of bison within Yellowstone National Park, a plan which will replace one under which 1,500 bison have been shot or slaughtered.

The reason why the bison have been killed is for fear of transmitting brucellosis to cattle. The new plan still calls for bison to be shot if they enter certain zones outside the park, but only if they fail efforts to push them back into Yellowstone.

The concert tour Honor the Earth this year is focused on protecting bison within the park.
