FRIDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2001

For the first time since its creation in 1990, the Petroglyph National Monument in New Mexico will be fully surveyed.

The survey will be funded by $400,000, part of the Department of Interior's $19.1 billion fiscal year 2002 spending bill.

The monument is the source of controversy in the city of Albuquerque due to a proposed road that would extend through it. Sandia Pueblo is threatening to sue over the road, which the mayor-elect supports.
