Editorial: Black Hills rail needed

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2002 In an editorial today, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader says the state of South Dakota needs a $1.5 billion railroad expansion that a coalition of Indians and non-Indians have opposed. The paper says it is not happy with all aspects of the project, which gained federal approval last month. "But on the whole, this is good for South Dakota," the paper states. The Dakota Minnesota & Eastern Railroad company plans to lay down almost 300 miles of new track from the Black Hills in South Dakota to the Powder River Basin coal mines of Wyoming. DM&E also wants to replace 600 miles of existing track in South Dakota and Minnesota. Get the Story:
