JULY 19, 2000 In "Include People's Lodge in Whitebear's legacy," the Seattle Post-Intelligencer today says the city of Seattle has been richer because of the contributions made by Bernie Whitebear, who recently died of cancer. Whitebear, founder of the United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, is known for his occupation of Fort Lawton in the 1970s. He turned part of the site into the Daybreak Star Art and Cultural Center. The paper says the people of Seattle need to find a way to build the People's Lodge. Whitebear had hoped to build the multi-purpose lodge before he died. Get the Story:
