Makah hunt continues
A second whaling permit was issued to the Parker family on Saturday. The crew took to the waters on Saturday but failed to hunt a whale. The whale actively participated in the event by playing with the hunters, according to observers. No protesters violated the 500-yard exclusion zone. The 10-day whaling permit will expire May 16.

Man a Catawba imposter
It turns out the man hailed as the last native speaker of the Catawba langauge had no relation to the South Carolina tribe. Chief Red Thunder Cloud, also known as Carlos Ashibie Hawk Westez to his friends, was really Cromwell Ashbie Hawkins West. Whatever his origins were, he was still hailed as an important contributor to the preservation of the Catawba language and culture.
