Terrorism brings party leaders together

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 2001 The September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon have brought rival party leaders in Congress together in ways never seen before. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert and the House Democratic leader, Richard A. Gephardt, have appeared at press conferences together, shown up on television together and have been given big hugs by President Bush. But there are still some tensions between the leaders and their parties and sooner or later, say aides and lawmakers, the bipartisanship will unravel. Get the Story:
