8th Circuit nominee sails through hearing

WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2001 Senators from both sides of the aisle on Tuesday unanimously praised William Riley, President Bush's pick for a seat on the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals. In confirmed, Riley, a lawyer in private practice, would oversee cases affecting tribes in Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The 8th Circuit recently held Santee Sioux tribal officials in Nebraska in contempt for not shutting down their casino. The court also hears cases for the states of Missouri and Arkansas.
