The chief of a group known as the Cherokee Nation of Missouri and Arkansas sought the help of Roger Clinton to gain a Presidential pardon for his convicted son, reports the New York Times.

Chief Carl Grey Owl Griggs sent a letter to Roger Clinton at the White House in January, seeking a last minute reprieve for his son, Steven Michael Griggs. The chief and Roger Clinton, the older brother or President Bill Clinton, had met some time before.

Although it is not clear if Roger Clinton played a role in pushing Griggs case, the President subsequenly asked a White House lawyer to consider him for a commutation, according to another lawyer. Griggs, however, was not pardoned.
