Minority candidate possible at FBI

MAY 3, 2001 Officials at the FBI and the Department of Justice are going to seriously consider a minority candidate to replace Director Louis J. Freeh, says the Washington Post today. The FBI has come under fire by African-American agents. A federal court earlier this week approved a settlement between the FBI and African-American agents who accused their employer of discrimination. The agency and Justice have also been criticized for the handling of the Wen Ho Lee spy case. Born in Taiwan, the former Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist was believed targeted because of his Asian ancestry. The FBI has been making attempts to change its perception in the American Indian community as well.
