Bush signs WWII bill

MAY 29, 2001 President Bush on Monday signed a bill to create a memorial to World War II veterans on the Mall in Washington, DC. The memorial has been the subject of debate over its design and location since it was authorized in 1993. Congress this session finally overrode the objections of government planning commission in order to get it built. Construction will begin in December and is expected to be complete by 2004.
