In a speech before the Alaska Legislature, Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) on Wednesday said he has asked for $15 million to help villages in the state enforce alcohol restrctions.

Alaska Native villages have been seeking federal funds and support to help combat alcoholism. Last October, Native leaders, the state of Alaska, and the Department of Justice provided favorable testimony on the issue to the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs.

Stevens also called for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).
