OCTOBER 26, 2000 The race for Governor and Senator of Washington are close, with incumbents John Locke and Slade Gorton in the lead in an independent poll. In the Elway Poll of 400 voters, Democratic Governor Locke has 56 percent over his Republican challenger, John Carlson. Carlson has advocated for and end to tribal and commercial fishing in order to save salmon. Republican Gorton has a small lead of 46 percent to 36 percent over Democrat Maria Cantwell. Twelve tribes in the state have endorsed Cantwell. Get the Story:
