Neb. candidate supports racial profiling

TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2001 Democrats in Nebraska are criticizing Republican gubernatorial candidate Jon Bruning for saying he would support racial profiling of Arabs. According to The Grand Island Independent, Bruning said he supports profiling because it would help America's war on terrorims. But it wouldn't be like profiling of African-Americans or Hispanics because doing so, said Bruning, "crosses the line." In a follow-up with The Associated Press, Bruning says it's just "common sense" to profile Arabs. Oh, and it's not like interning the Japanese, he added. Bruning is a state representative from a rural part of Nebraska. Nebraska is home to four tribes. Get the Story:
