Plans to tax Choctaw shelved

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 2001 A Mississippi state lawmaker who wanted to tax the Choctaw Tribe's casino has backed off his proposal, the Associated Press reports today. Sen. Jack Gordon, a Democrat, had said the state should revisit its compact with the tribe. But he now says the state should abide by the agreement, negotiated back in 1993. Get the Story:
