Poll: Casino support except in backyard

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2001 A poll conducted by Quinnipiac University in New York shows that 54 percent of New York residents support casino development on reservations. But if development were proposed in their community, 66 percent opposed casinos in their city or town. The state is negotiating six casinos, three for the Seneca Nation in western New York and three in the Catskills region. The casinos are seen as helping dig the state out of its deficit due to September 11's terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and its impact on the economy. Get the Story:
