State tribes to focus on tourism
AUGUST 24, 2000

The New Mexico Department of Indian Tourism, part of the state's tourism department, will focus on helping tribes capitalize on tourism.

Visitors to the state report tribes as one of the top three reasons they come to New Mexico. The Department will hold meetings with each tribe to discuss how to put together their own tours instead of using outside ones, how to use tourism data to apply for funding, and how to ensure a community's character while developing tourism.

Gaming is also drawing visitors to the state's reservations.
