THURSDAY, AUGUST 16, 2001 Executives of two Alaska Native corporations have dropped plans to build a major hotel near Denali National Park. Cook Inlet Region Inc. and Doyon Ltd. in March 2000 said they wanted to build an upscale hotel near the park. But Jim Mery, vice president of Doyon, told The Anchorage Daily News the project has since become "too risky a venture." Slower growth in tourism, another hotel project and a new announcement for yet another hotel led to the decision, said executives. Get the Story:
