Calif. tribes form welfare consortium

MAY 2, 2001 Nine tribes in Southern California have formed the Torres-Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indian Consortium to manage approximately $6.6 million annually in welfare funds previously distributed by Riverside County. Along with the Torres-Martinez Tribe, the consortium consists of the representatives from the Agua Caliente, Augustine, Cahuilla, Morongo, Ramona, Santa Rosa, and Soboba tribes. Get the Story:
