MAY 17, 2000 The White Earth Band of Ojibwe announced an expansion to their current casino and hotel facility in Minnesota. The tribe wants to attract larger conventions by building an auditorium that will seat 1,500, adding 8 to 10 meeting rooms, increasing hotel capacity by about 100 rooms, adding 300 more slot machines, expanding current dining facilities and relocating the current business offices. The tribe plans to finance the expansion with a 31 million bond package. The Red Lake Band of Ojibwe also announced expansion plans this Spring at their River Road Casino to attract more families with children. The two casinos compete for the same customers.
