New Governor says no to casino

FEBRUARY 2, 2001 In a radio interview on Thursday, Scott McCallum, who is now the Governor of Wisconsin, said he would not approve an off-reservation casino proposed by the Menominee Nation. The casino needs approval from the state even if the Bureau of Indian Affairs gives it the green light. McCallum has said he opposes expanded gaming in the state. McCallum was sworn in as Governor yesterday since Tommy Thompson resigned to become head of the Department of Health and Human Services under President George W. Bush. Get the Story:
