Oregon tribe seeks casino

FEBRUARY 15, 2001 The Warm Springs Tribal Council last week voted to begin researching a proposal to build a casino east of the Hood River. The tribe has made casino proposals before. One proposed for Cascade Locks was rejected by Governor John Kitzhaber while another in Madras was rejected by tribal members. The tribe is currently dealing with a $1.6 million budget shortfall and has had to lay off tribal government workers and workers at its mill. Get the Story:
