'Oz' park seen dead in water

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2001 A proposed $861 million Wizard of Oz theme park is seen as dead now that the Johnson County Commission in Kansas voted 3-1 Thursday night not to study the project any more. The project has run into opposition and snags since it was first proposed. Most recently, the state attorney general said developers Oz Entertainment Co. owes $400,000 to a local county, who paid for a study only to see the company choose a former Army munitions plant for the site. Also, the Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma is asking the Department of Interior to take the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant into trust. The tribe says some of its members used to live there. Get the Story:
