Wampanoag chairwoman re-elected

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 19, 2001 Voters of the Gay Head Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts have re-elected Beverly Wright as their chairwoman. Wright defeated two challengers for the position. She has been in office since 1992. The tribe is based on the island of Martha's Vineyard and is the only one in the state with federal recognition. The tribe is hoping to open a casino, having tried several times in the past. Related Stories:
