Towns ask for second Pequot meeting

SEPTEMBER 6, 2000 Three Connecticut towns who are opposing the federal recognition of two Pequot tribes are asking the Bureau of Indian Affairs for a second public meeting on the petitions of the tribes. The towns of Preston, Ledyard, and North Stonington, wrote the Bureau of Indian Affairs on Tuesday, asking for another meeting. The Bureau held a two-day meeting in August to discuss the tribes' petitions and the towns say not all of their issued were addressed. The towns also asked for a six-month extension to the public comment period on the tribes. The comment period is set to expire on September 27. Get the Story:
