MONDAY, JULY 30, 2001 Three Connecticut towns who are fighting three Pequot tribes on a number of fronts want to meet with their state's Congressional delegation to discuss their concerns. The towns of Ledyard, North Stonington and Preston sent a letter to their eight-member delegation. They want to discuss federal recognition, land-into-trust, gaming and other Indian policies. The towns are opposing attempts by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation to seek trust lands. The towns and the tribe are in talks about how to resolve their differences with the tribe appearing to give in despite having their position upheld in court. The towns are also fighting the pending federal recognition of the Eastern Pequot Tribe and the Paucatuck Eastern Pequot Tribe. Get the Story:
