Indian firm may appeal case to Supreme Court

THURSDAY, JULY 12, 2001 A lawyer representing an Indian-owned construction company located on the Blackfeet Reservation in Montana says his clients might ask the Supreme Court to review their case. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday threw out a $2.2 million judgment the Blackfeet Tribal Court awarded to Glacier Construction. The company had alleged breach of contract against a former client. Barring Supreme Court review, the company could seek to collect the judgment from assets Glacier Electric Cooperative holds on the reservation. But a lawyer for the Co-Op says that will only hurt tribal members, many of whom are part of the Co-op. Get the Story:
