Leech Lake has new voting system

The Leech Lake Ojibwe of Minnesota introduced a new automated election system on Monday in time for its primary election.

The tribe also hired a widely-used elections consulting firm to oversee the process. Tribal members had complained about the fairness of the system, in which votes used to be counted by hand.
