MARCH 19, 2001 The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation on Friday said it will offer to three Connecticut towns a settlement to its land dispute on or by April 9. The proposal will be used to set the agenda for a second meeting between the tribe and the towns of Ledyard, North Stonington, and Preston. The parties first met on March 12 to discuss their differences over how much land the tribe should add to its reservation. The towns and the state last fall lost their lawsuit against the Department of Interior over its decision to take 165 acres of land into trust. They have asked the Supreme Court to consider taking the case, however. Barring action there or lack of agreement with the tribe's proposed settlement, the towns have said they will ask Congress to help them fight the tribe. Get the Story:
