Makah Tribe gets new Chairman

DECEMBER 22, 2000 The Makah Nation of Washington has elected a new chairman, with Nathan Tyler replacing Ben Johnson Jr. Johnson led the tribe during the resumption of their controversial whale hunt. Also losing a council seat was Keith Johnson, Chairman of the tribe's whaling commission, whose name wasn't on the ballot. Michael Lawrence will take his vacated seat. Get the Story:
