DOJ: Landowners won't be sued

NOVEMBER 3, 2000 Responding to allegations made by Representative Thomas Reynolds (R-New York), the Department of Justice on Thursday said private landowners won't be sued in a potential lawsuit involving the Seneca Nation. Reynolds on Wednesday claimed the Department was preparing to sue landowners in a 100,000 acre land claim in western New York. He said the Department of Interior recommended months ago to Justice that a lawsuit proceed. But a BIA spokesperson said the lawsuit wasn't under active consideration.
