Wen Ho Lee documents made public

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2001

A federal judge in New Mexico on Tuesday made public 20 out of 22 documents in the botched spy case against Wen Ho Lee.

A group called Chinese for Affirmative Action sought the documents in order to see if Lee was targeted in a high-profile espionage case because of his Asian ancestry. Born in Taiwan and with American citizenship, all but one charge against Lee was eventually dropped, to which he plead guilty.

The government says no racial bias occurred. Internal reports fault a number of agencies and authorities for their handling of the case.
