The New Mexico Department of Health last week released a report compiling various health statistics of Pueblo, Navajo and Apache tribes in the state.

For each tribal group, the report shows birth, death and infant mortality statistics. Among Pueblos, the data is broken out among the 19 tribes.

Leading causes of death among Pueblo residents of the state between 1991 and 1999 were heart disease, accidents, cancer, diabetes and chronic liver disease and cirrhosis. Among Navajos, accidents, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and cerebrovascular diseases were the leading causes.

Among Apaches, the leading causes were accidents, heart disease, chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, cancer and suicide.
