Chao targeted for ergonomics delay

APRIL 27, 2001 A Senate Appropriations subcommittee on Thursday pressed the Department of Labor to come up with a timeframe for establishing new ergonomics regulations but Secretary Elaine Chao said she wouldn't commit to any deadlines. Chao's response brought skepticism from members of the committee, some of whom voted to overturn the regulations they now want her to develop. Through a process never utilized until this March, The Senate overturned a set of workplace safety standards the Clinton administration implemented. The rules focused on musculoskeletal disorders and ergonomic standards for employers. Get the Story:
