NOVEMBER 20, 2000 The death of a 4-year-old child on the Warm Springs Reservation in Oregon has raised questions on how the tribe's child welfare agency handles adoptions and foster children. Andres Saragos died of heatstroke after spending nine hours in a hot car. His foster mother has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. In response to the death, the tribe will look at the way allegations of abuse and neglect are handled. Some tribal members say politics and favoritism often influence proper handling of such claims.
