Canada: Natives have highest heart disease rate

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2001 Natives in Canada have the highest rate of heart disease when compared to others, according to a study of the Six Nations Reserve in Ontario. Among 300 residents of the reserve, researchers found higher rate of heart attack, stroke, angina and other cardiovascular disease (18.5 percent) compared to non-Natives (7.6 percent). Natives also have double the rate of risk factors as smoking, obesity and diabetes, said researchers. Get the Story:
