Rahall wants sacred site protection

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2002 Rep. Nick Rahall (D-W.Va.) discussed energy legislation and other Indian issues before the National Congress of American Indians in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday. Rahall reiterated his support for the protection of the Weatherman Draw in Montana. Also known as the Valley of the Chiefs, the Department of Interior approved oil exploration there to great protest by tribes in the Plains and interest by the mainstream media. Rahall has drafted a bill to ensure drilling doesn't occur at the site and others considered sacred. Get the Story:
