Native corps encouraged to support mining

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 2001 Alaska Native corporations could benefit greatly from mining in the state of Alaska, said a mining economist. Douglas Silver said Native corporations also need to learn to negotiate business deals better. Mining companies can't always offer immediately lucrative deals to corporations, said Silver. Silver pointed to a deal negotiated by NANA Regional Corp. for the world's largest zinc mine. Due to the potential success of the venture, NANA got a good deal, and other corporations automatically expect they will be treated the same, said Silver. Get the Story:
