Ariz. tribe worried about mining

THURSDAY, AUGUST 2, 2001 The Havasupai Tribe of Arizona doesn't want a uranium mine on sacred land to be reopened but the Colorado company who owns the site says there is nothing to worry about. The mine is located in the Kaibab National Forest near the Grand Canyon. The tribe considers the area sacred and has battled the mine before. The mine, however, is currently idle and the company that owns it says uranium prices are too low right now to consider starting it back up. Get the Story:
